Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers about mosquitoes, treatments, misting systems, traps, and service in Dallas-Fort Worth.
General Mosquito Questions
When is mosquito season in North Texas?
Mosquito activity commonly builds in spring and can continue well into fall. Temperature, rainfall, irrigation, and standing water can shift the timing from year to year. Some species are most active during the day, while others are more active around dusk and dawn.
Why does one yard have more mosquitoes than the house next door?
Shade, vegetation, drainage, containers, gutters, irrigation, nearby creeks, and neighboring habitat can all change mosquito pressure over a short distance. An inspection helps identify which conditions matter most on a specific property.
Can mosquito control eliminate every mosquito?
No responsible mosquito-control plan can promise zero mosquitoes. The goal is meaningful reduction through standing-water management, personal protection, and professional services matched to the property and mosquito activity.
What can I do before hiring a professional?
Empty or manage standing water every week, clean gutters, repair screens, use outdoor fans, wear protective clothing when practical, and use an EPA-registered repellent according to its label. These steps remain useful even when professional service is added.
Yard Treatment Questions
How does a mosquito yard treatment work?
A technician inspects the property, identifies water and adult resting areas, and applies products only to sites allowed by their labels. Depending on the property, a plan may target adult mosquitoes, immature stages, or both.
How often are yard treatments scheduled?
Many properties are scheduled about every four weeks during mosquito season, but weather, mosquito pressure, product labels, and site conditions can change the appropriate interval. We recommend a schedule after evaluating the property.
Are mosquito treatments safe for children and pets?
No pesticide is completely risk-free. Products must be selected and applied according to their labels. We provide preparation and re-entry instructions for the specific service. Tell us about children, pets, beehives, gardens, ponds, play areas, and other sensitive locations before treatment.
Can mosquito-control products harm bees and butterflies?
Some products used for mosquitoes can harm pollinators and other non-target insects. Timing, placement, product selection, and label-directed application can reduce exposure but cannot make the risk zero. We avoid blooming plants and other sensitive areas when the label and treatment plan call for it.
How much does a yard treatment cost?
Pricing depends on property size, access, mosquito pressure, and the service plan. Contact us for a current quote so we can give you an accurate price rather than an outdated website estimate.
Misting System Questions
How does a mosquito misting system work?
A misting system uses tubing and outdoor nozzles to deliver brief, scheduled pesticide applications. The product, rate, timing, placement, and daily maximum must follow the pesticide label. A remote allows the user to skip an application when the yard is occupied.
Is a misting system right for every property?
No. Property layout, mosquito species, neighboring habitat, sensitive areas, maintenance needs, and how the yard is used all matter. EPA notes that misting systems have not been studied sufficiently to document broad effectiveness, and CDC does not recommend routine homeowner use. We discuss those limitations and other control options before recommending an installation.
What precautions matter with a misting system?
Use only products labeled for misting systems, follow the maximum daily application rate, secure the reservoir from children, keep nozzles away from eating and cooking areas, and maintain and calibrate the equipment. People and pets should not be directly exposed to the spray.
What should I do after accidental pesticide exposure?
Move away from the application and follow the first-aid directions on the pesticide label. Keep the product name and EPA registration number available. For urgent symptoms call emergency services. In the United States, Poison Control is available at 1-800-222-1222, and the National Pesticide Information Center is available at 1-800-858-7378.
Do you service existing misting systems?
Yes. We provide refills, cleaning, diagnostics, repairs, and seasonal care for many existing systems. Contact us with the brand, model, and current condition so we can confirm the best next step.
Trapping and Abatement Questions
When can mosquito traps help?
Traps can be useful when they are matched to the mosquito species and placed correctly. They work best as one part of a broader plan that also addresses standing water, vegetation, personal protection, and neighboring pressure.
Can a trap or larvicide be placed near any water source?
No. Every product has specific labeled sites, restrictions, and precautions. Never place a pesticide in drinking water, ponds, drains, or other sensitive sites unless the product label explicitly allows that use.
Authoritative Consumer Resources
For independent guidance, review the EPA’s mosquito misting system guidance and the CDC’s misting system guidance. Product-specific directions on the pesticide label always control.
